Weird things about me

Inspired by (and partially cribbed from) marco:

I’m a geek, but I don’t like anime, comic books, or Star Trek. I do eat sushi, but only if vegetarian. Fun fact: imitation crab meat is still fish, just not crab.

I love Lord of the Rings, like Harry Potter, and love SNES-era RPGs like Chrono Trigger and Earthbound. I have never played Final Fantasy. Not-a one of them.

I dislike NetNewsWire, Emacs, Java, and desktop Linux. VLC is the best thing ever and Twitter is fun. I use an RSS reader occasionally, but prefer to view the actual website.

I have no use for Facebook, but I still have an account. I’m not sure why.

I watch YouTube videos occasionally, but only when specifically linked. I don’t browse. I only watch television shows and movies on TV, YouTube (Vimeo, etc) is for short-form video. Video on iPhone kind of sucks.

I don’t have a Wii, yet. I have an Xbox 360 and play it just about every day.

I have GTA IV, and love it. I split my Xbox time between it and Rock Band. Guitar Hero III is a shell of the series’ former self, Rock Band is the true successor. But to be fair, I’m one of those freaks who spends time trying to get 100% on Expert.

The vast majority of my music collection is NWOBHM-era metal, indie rock, J-Rock, or a subset of nu metal/alternative rock/hard rock that I don’t want to talk about because it’s embarrassing.

I don’t like Dave Matthews Band but love Radiohead. And I dislike shuffle mode too — I primarily enjoy listening to full albums at once, or one specific band.

I like “hard” music, but I don’t have any inner anger. It just gets my adrenaline going and helps me work and think. Everyone has issues, but I’m rather happy overall. My life is awesome.

I love soda and soda-like drinks (canned lemonade, Snapple, etc.) I also love “energy” drinks. Coffee is bitter and gross and tea tastes like grass - yes, ALL of it does - and I’m convinced that you people are deluding yourselves.

I don’t feel the need to risk my life to conquer manufactured challenges such as climbing mountains or falling out of planes. I don’t feel like I’m missing anything — in fact, I’d be bored if I did these things, and I wouldn’t get any enjoyment or satisfaction out of them.

I’ve used PowerPoint and it makes me feel dirty. I used Keynote to make a presentation to convince Theresa to let me buy an Xbox 360. (Successful!)

I dislike most bars and clubs with the passion of a thousand burning babies because I like to see and hear people effectively, and because people are annoying and drunk people are even more-so.

I like to be home by as soon as humanly possible - 5:45PM or so - and as often as possible. I am an introvert and a homebody. I am in bed by 11-11:30, slightly later on weekends. I don’t like changing my sleep schedule on weekends, but I usually sleep in an hour or two later because I end up staying up later.

I only wear jeans. The same pair, every single day. I used to have to wear khakis for my job, and they are silly. I also rarely wear long-sleeved shirts, even in the winter, because I feel more comfortable in t-shirts. If too cold, I wear a hoodie.

I didn’t get a cellphone until last year. It’s an iPhone. I don’t use text-messaging.
